Who are we?
Spit Roasts and Barbecues are a small, but successful catering company from the South of England. The owners, Richard James and Julie Hake both have years of catering experience including being the Captain’s Chef on HMS Ark Royal! The company has been established for nearly 20 years and has provided Spit Roasts to a variety of people including HMS Collingwood, Fareham Freemasons, Murder Mystery Parties and Combat South. Our staff have grown to include some expert chefs and professional waiting staff.
Is it safe to have a Spit Roast indoors?
Certainly! The Spit Roast machine is fully enclosed so no fat drips but we provide a floor covering for extra protection. Obviously, there is some heat generated from the machine but it’s not much; just enough to set off a welcoming aroma for your guests. Having the Spit Roast machine inside is totally safe…we’ve even had one on HMS Victory!!
How is the Spit Roast organised?
Our experienced chef and catering staff carve the pig in front of your guests, then they will come and collect what they want…that allows them to pick and choose the best bits! A handful of waiting staff will be available to refill salad bowls, help with any problems and clear away on completion.
Will there be enough for all my guests?
There is always enough meat for seconds and even thirds! A large pig can fill up over 200 people. We buy the pig according to the number of guests at your function. We currently own six Spit Roast Machines so there is no maximum number of guests. To make it worth your while though, we do stipulate a minimum number of people.
Do you have Public Liability Insurance?
Yes. Spit Roasts and Barbecues are fully insured. We also have all the necessary Health and Hygiene Certificates.
How far are you willing to travel?
We have catered for Spit Roasts all over Hampshire and beyond! Obviously, the price will include travel for distances above 50 miles from our base which is Droxford, Hampshire.
Do I have to provide anything?
We’ll bring everything except tables for serving and covering if it’s raining. Along with the pig, we usually bring bread rolls, new potatoes and a variety of salads. Obviously, if you want something different we could come to an agreement. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
What about Vegetarians?
We cater for vegetarians and other food intolerances. Just mention this to us when you book so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Why should I have a Spit Roast? What sort of functions do you cater for?
Quite simply, it is an original way of providing your guests with great food. It is a great, informal way of eating without missing out on highly professional catering. Whether it is an informal Darts Club Party or an elaborate Corporate Lunch or even that Special Wedding Day – Spit Roasts and Barbecues will provide the best catering for you.
Is your meat locally produced?
Yes. We totally support the 'Buy British' campaign for meat. All of our meat, including sausages, burgers, and chops, are locally provided by butchers R. Owton from West End, Southampton and J. Tull from Wickham Square, Hampshire.
Do you provide a bar? Or a chocolate fountain?
No, but we know a man who can! Have a look at our links page to check out some businesses we have worked with in the past.
